I've had this monocular for several months now and and I am still totally satisfied. The 42 mm objective lens allows it to gather enough light for early morning or late evening nature watching. The exit pupil measures 4 mm, which also makes this a good scope for casual star gazing. (The pupil of the human eye opens to between 5 mm and 7 mm when fully dilated. Anything more than that in a telescope is a waste.) I can get my monocular to focus as close as 28 inches. This is almost ten inches closer than a set of close focus binoculars costing hundreds of dollars more. Add to all this the coated optics, the soft rubber body, the waterproofing, the carrying case, the handy neck strap, and the tripod mount connector and one has a compelling product.
I own three telescopes--and have built one. I am confident that this is a quality optical instrument and an excellent bargain.

A lot for a little...
By Craig H. Kinsley
I was in the market for an inexpensive monocular for animal behavior observations. Something that was portable, durable, waterproof, and uncomplicated. Having had a lot of experience with optics fron Orion, including owning a telescope of theirs that I just love (the XT12 Intelliscope Dobsonian, modded with Televue lenses, Starlight Instruments focuser, and ScopeBuggy). I saw the new 10x42 monocular and it seemed to be just what I was looking for. This little thing is just great. It comes with with a little neck cord that cleverly screws into the base where a tripod or monopod would go, and it has a carrying case. The optics are Orion-quality -- sharp and bright -- with magnification that provides resolution but not at the expense of clarity. For the price, the features of the Orion monocular far exceed what it costs. Orion, again, delivers on its promise. Thanks to them for producing such a fine product.

Fixed it now I love it
When I got this I was about to return it, but said to myself no I will fix it instead! So I did now I love it!
The screw mount to hold the lens together is also on the same ring that the focus is on, so when you focus you can and in most cases are actually unswerving the lens mount, if you tighten the mount down you can no longer focus, you must keep it loose so you can also focus,
so I glued the mount loosely so the focus would still turn but not come apart. I you are not prepared to do this you do not want this!
This also made it not waterproof or maybe more waterproof who knows but it does now work!
