This is a good deal
By William Smith
I bought this for two reasons. I am a professional videographer and I wanted a dslr to use for certain filming circumstances, plus I wanted to add photography to our wedding video packages. I will talk about the accessories before i get into the camera.
I would have given this kit 5 stars but the tripod is too light and not good for much of anything. Tell us how you really feel...I just did.
The Microphone is very light. I would say cheap, but the sound is great and it runs 80 hours on one battery so I am good with it.
The bat light is tiny and I like tiny things. It comes with 2 rechargeable battery packs and a charger. I have only used it for about an hour but it remained bright and did well to light my subject.
The Scorpion Grip is plastic, but seams to be durable and has tons of adjustments regarding camera placement. it has a shoe on top that has a metal retaining clip and the handle has a comfortable foam rubber padding. It is actually quite handy to use and no complaints.
Another reason I got this kit was the lenses: It came with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens. These lenses are great. they have a built in optical stabilization in the lens group and the focus motor is so quiet you can't here it in the video. The image quality is excellent, the stabilization works great and the auto focus is superb. An interesting feature of these lenses is that you can fine tune the focus manually without having to switch to manual in fear of hurting the focus motor. The second lens made the overall cost of this kit worth it to me.
The backpack seams durable and the rest of the accessories good.
The camera is awesome. It has tons of features. The video it shoots is as good as my Panasonic AG-HMC150's, and the color is a bit richer on the T6i. I had a little trouble finding the audio levels in the menu, the trouble being it wasn't there. I am not sure how it was fixed but all the menus appeared after I plugged the camera into my computer and ran the Canon EOS Utility app that came with other software on a disc.
The camera provides built in settings that you can turn on or off that add various degrees of art, or accuracy or feel to your pictures or videos. The camera is one of the only DSLRs (or video thoroughbreds that I have worked with) that is just as good with everything set on auto as it is on manual. GASP!! (that was the sound that just came from my colleagues in the video industry upon seeing my last sentence.) The STM lenses make follow focus on auto a dream. The video is crisp and the sound is an 8 out of 10.
All in all the T6i is a great all around prosumer stills and video camera that is feature rich and and has a learning curve that is not so steep that a beginner can't figure it out. Whether you're a professional on a budget or a hobby shooter, this is the camera for you, and so is this package if you promise not to get cranky about the horrible tripod.
